2025 - Meet the artists

Veerle Martens

Veerle Martens (Gentse Azalea)

Aujourd’hui, on dénombre environ 150 variétés.

The decoration of the reception area was created by Veerle Martens, a proud member of the Flemish Association of Azalea Growers. She promotes the Ghent Azalea, a plant originally from China and Japan that was introduced in Belgium in the late 18th century. It found an ideal growing environment in Flanders and quickly became popular. Today, there are around 150 varieties.

Rizzo has dressed beauty queens, artists, and public figures for pageants in Belgium and Amsterdam. He was awarded Best Evening Gown at the Tinaquillo fair in Cojedes state, an achievement that honors both his roots and his craft.

Sinds hun ontmoeting in 2005 groeide hun creatieve wisselwerking.

Since childhood, Sébastien has been passionate about creativity. After studying fashion and building a career designing clothing, he moved into jewellery design with features in magazines and a collaboration with Véronique Branquinho. Gert studied psychology but always had a fascination with flowers and plants. When they met in 2005, a strong creative exchange began. Sébastien reignited Gert’s artistic spark which led him to explore ceramics. Gert awakened Sébastien’s love for the natural world. Together they trained in floristry and worked freelance for a renowned florist. From this shared journey, ØWEN was born, a boutique where floral art and lifestyle blend with personality.

overvloedig vrouwelijk
van leven vervuld
bovenaards verbonden

muze met aureool van bloemen —
paren dansen rond haar linten,
vieren een toekomst samen

zij kent de geheimen van alle voorouders:
adem me in en geef me aan mezelf terug

geborduurde gouden draad
frivole stoffen vloeien in elkaar over

Flora omarmt elke nieuwe cyclus

fil d'or brodé

Flora embrasse chaque nouveau cycle
elle t’emmène
au coeur de son jardin secret

Elena Werner, from Esperanza, Argentina, works at the intersection of costume design, scenography, and floral art.
Her education and career span a wide range of disciplines from fashion and textile design in Buenos Aires to costume design for opera, theatre, and film in Belgium, the Netherlands, and the UK. Since 2023, floral design has become part of her artistic practice, as seen in her contribution to the Ghent Floraliën. Werner treats flowers as expressive materials, akin to fabric and the human body, integrating them into installations that are both sculptural and theatrical.

The awakening of Flora

abundantly feminine
filled with life
unearthly connected

muse with a halo of flowers —
couples dance around her ribbons,
celebrate a future together

she knows the secrets of all ancestors:
breathe me in and return me to my inner self
root me in the arms of the earth

shades from dark to light
shimmering silk reflects the colors of tapestries —
the city as a house, the country as home

a spiraling movement of
embroidered gold thread
frivolous fabrics flow into each other

Flora embraces each new cycle
she guides you
into the soft heart of her secret garden

Verwimp Raf

Verwimp Raf

Raf Verwimp, a floral designer and artist based in Lier,
creates from a vivid visual imagination. His floral pieces and installations are first constructed in his mind—like scenes from an inner film—before taking physical form. He sketches his ideas with pencil and paper, drawing inspiration from seasonal changes, chance encounters, and small, moving details. His floral creations are often narrative in nature, with a strong focus on colour, rhythm, and atmosphere.

Jean-Paul Lespagnard is a Belgian designer and artistic director known for his bold, playful, and culturally rich approach to fashion, objects, interiors, and performance. Trained in visual arts and fashion design, he merges popular culture, craftsmanship, and storytelling into vibrant creations that resist classification. His work celebrates contrasts: high and low, traditional and experimental, intuitive and intentional. He has collaborated with international brands, choreographers, and cultural institutions. His projects reflect a deep curiosity about identity, movement, and the emotional life of objects and spaces. He creates experiences that connect people, places, and time.

Jean-Paul Lespagnard’s scarves are more than accessories. They are wearable stories. Each piece captures a moment, a gesture, a memory. Bold yet intimate, his designs explore contrast: graphic rhythm meets soft texture, tradition meets pop. Inspired by travel, identity, and rituals, the scarves reflect his love for meaningful objects. Whether knotted, draped, or folded, they become part of a personal story, linking body and spirit. One of his most iconic pieces is the Nature Morte scarf, a poetic collaboration with floral artist Raf Verwimp. Originally commissioned as a gift for the Queen, it bridges protocol and artistic freedom. Now worn by figures in music and politics, it symbolizes thoughtful beauty, layered and open to interpretation. Designed with care, produced with precision, and always infused with freedom, these scarves are visual poems to be worn, shared, and passed on.
